Breaking the Ice contains six interviews with leading researchers in biomechanics, two U.S. national figure skating champions and Olympians, a member of the U.S. Figure Skating Association Medical team and a former competitive skater and current coach: Dr. James Richards, Dr. Deborah King, Kristen Schuyten, Bradie Tennell, Nikki Metzger, and David Santee. The purpose of this book is to study how the kinesthetic pathways involved in jumping differ for different body types and how a better understanding of the complex physics involved in jumping can improve technique and reduce injury. All of the profit made from the sales of Breaking the Ice will be donated to the U.S. Figure Skating Memorial Fund (RISE), which provides financial support to athletes for their skating-related and academic expenses.
